Powering Renewable Energy Projects

Biomass power plants provide many social benefits. Biomass power plants:

Turn wood waste in to electricity

Reduce the amount of trash that goes to landfills, thereby significantly lengthening the life of landfills

Generate electricity physically near the place it is used, thereby reducing the need for costly infrastructure improvements

Provide local communities with jobs

Provide a constant renewable energy source that is not subject to changes in wind or sunlight or other factors

Contribute to national energy security by generating electricity from domestic resources

Use a minimal amount of land and do not interfere with human or wildlife habitats

Reduce greenhouse gas emissions

Reduce the release of other air pollutants

Unlike fossil fuels, biomass power plants are carbon neutral and reduce greenhouse gasses. The amount of carbon produced by the biomass power plant is the same as the amount of carbon absorbed by the trees that produce the biomass fuel. Biomass power plants also reduce the greenhouse gasses because of the avoidance of a substantially greater amount of greenhouse gasses and other pollutants that would result from open burning of biomass or biodegradation of biomass in landfills or forests.
